The Diary of Tortov Roddle – A Moving Painting

A Sense of Lonely Whimsy

Image result for The Diary of Tortov Roddle animeOnce again my paying attention to Digi has paid dividends. Love him or hate him, I do often stumble across excellent recommendations, especially of more obscure titles. One of his recent videos, “Finish or Fail A-pocalypse #2: Ayashi no Ceres & The Traveler’s Diary” convinced me to check out the show in question today. With six, three minute episodes, The Diary of Tortov Roddle is worth checking out for just the novelty alone. Continue reading “The Diary of Tortov Roddle – A Moving Painting”

This Art Club Has a Problem! – Collaboration with Yomu: Episode 1

First impressions are important: a critique of the first 5 minutes of the episode.

Image result for this art club has a problemOk, so before I actually do that let me introduce this project a bit. Yomu really wanted to do this collab where folks would all watch a show, the same show, episode-by-episode each week but with a big twist! That being we’d all (mostly) be focusing on different themes/ideas each time. We get a huge list to choose from and pick one. So, as you can see, I chose to tackle first impressions. We had some choices as to what to watch but we settled on This Art Club Has a Problem! in the end. You can read about the project in more detail here. Freaky Friday 4 of 4 – Happy Sugar Life

The Best Anime of the Summer 2018 Season

Happy Sugar LifeI’ve held off on reviewing Happy Sugar Life for some time now and some of you may have been wondering why I hadn’t reviewed it yet, especially since I reviewed everything else I watched during the summer already. That’s right, I knew it was a good fit for Halloween reviewing so I saved the best for last. Hitting the number two spot of my favorite anime so far, here’s why you should give Happy Sugar Life a watch. Continue reading “Freaky Friday 4 of 4 – Happy Sugar Life”

Cells at Work! – Platelet Appreciation (Also a Review… I Guess)

This Would Work Better as a Video

Image result for cells at workThe Summer 2018 season didn’t grace us with many gifts this season but the ones it did bring were quite good. One of them was Cells at Work! which is a better version of the Osmosis Jones television series (and film; 2002 & 2001 respectively). The series is all about the cells that well, for lack of a better word, work within our bodies. You follow a Red Blood Cell as she bumbles her way about, constantly getting rescued by White Blood Cell, and learning about various aspects of the body along the way. However, there is one thing that truly makes this worth while, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you should; that’s right:  Platelets! The Marble Olympics – Something Cool I Found & Had to Share

You’ll Want to Check This Out!

For today I’ll be talking about something totally different than usual, I’m going to be recommending you a YouTube channel I stumbled across earlier this week. What do you get when you combine marble courses, sports commentary, and excellent production? You’d end up with the channel, “Jelle’s Marble Runs” which is filled with all sorts of cool marble videos, most notably, the annual MarbleLympics. Trust me, this is one satisfying experience with a bit more to it than you might expect. Continue reading “The Marble Olympics – Something Cool I Found & Had to Share”

SRPG Studio – I Made a Game!

Well… More Like a Concept Demo

Recently I decided to fiddle around with the newly released English version of SRPG Studio that launched on Steam. For those unfamiliar, it is the engine used to make games akin to Fire Emblem, meaning you can make tactics based RPG’s with it. Even the creator of Fire Emblem, ‎Shouzou Kaga uses the software for doujin games. I made a full concept demo using just the free demo version in under 24 hours. Let’s dive into that experience and review the software some. Continue reading “SRPG Studio – I Made a Game!”

But Wait, There’s More! – Mini Review

Hey, Jon Spencer Here!

Today I’d like to tell you about this exciting board game called, “But Wait, There’s More!” a game that can be experienced with 3-10 players! Imagine yourself as one of those infomercial people having to sell products like a hammer or key. Not just any ol’ hammer or key though, oh no sir! Your hammer may be able to solve all your night-time worries or expand on command. Did I mention you were being timed? You have to give your spiel fast or risk those pesky viewers from changing the channel on you. Sounds exciting right? But wait, there’s more! As you pitch your idea you have to include an on-the-fly feature making for one wacky experience. So what are you waiting for?!? Grab your copy of, “But Wait, There’s More” for just… wait, this game is out of print now?

The blue cards are products, the pink cards are features

That’s pretty much an example of the game right there. it’s very similar to another game called Snake Oil but I love this one a lot more! Unfortunately, as I was writing this I learned that the game is unavailable right now. If you do manage to find a copy of this one for cheap someplace pick it up because it is one of the most fun party games I have. It’s always a huge hit!

To see the game in action and get a second opinion, check out The Dice Tower’s review of the game which I’ve posted below:

Tom recommends this too!

Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. – Basically a B Version of The Mask

This Film is Nuts

Image result for sgt. kabukiman n.y.p.dMy buddy decided one day that he was had to show me Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. and I obliged him. He had mentioned it a few times and it sounded kind of insane. What was just meant to be him showing me a bit of the movie to see if I might want to watch it later, turned into us actually watching the whole thing. I knew it was a B movie and I really wasn’t expecting much, but Kabukiman was both funny and entertaining throughout. Continue reading “Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D. – Basically a B Version of The Mask”

The 30 Day Anime Challenge Day 26 – The Best Anime Fight

My One, and Only, Repeat

30-day-anime-challengeHere’s the schedule as we come into the final five of these posts. Today I am going to be talking about the best fight in anime. This is the one, and only, time that you’ll be seeing a repeat for a show from me in this entire challenge. I made a rule that I wouldn’t use a show for the main feature twice and talked about that in the last one, but then I come and immediately throw in out. Whatever, it’s my site! Any way, any guess to what show I might be referring to yet? That’s right! My Hero Academia is back in the spotlight for this one.
