This time around we didn’t have much choice for the letter “V”. The other category saw a fair number of write-ins, but of the 18 unique participants, 9 of those votes went to our winner: Versailles no Bara, or The Rose of Versailles. This 1979 anime is one that’s been sitting on my shelf for some time, so this’ll be the perfect excuse to watch it! However, it comes in at 40 episodes so expect this one to take me some time to work through.
One thing I really love about this ABC series, is the fact that each letter seems to bring with it something completely different than the last. By time we reach “Z”, I’m sure that this will be a fairly unique snapshot of the medium that is anime, in so much that we’ll have sampled a bit of everything. Don’t you find that interesting as well?
Alright guys, we managed to once again have a tie on the vote. I shouldn’t be that surprised, as this has happened more often than it hasn’t. Out of our 20 unique voters, these two anime received 7 votes apiece:
Usagi Drop/Bunny Drop
Uchouten Kazoku/Eccentric Family, The S1
That’s when I decided I’d turn things back over to YOU to break the tie on Twitter. I won’t lie, you had me worried a bit because both titles were neck-and-neck until the very last minute. So let’s see the results below!
There was a tie for the ABC round, so I'm turning it over to you guys to break it! I'll be posting the results formally on Friday.
I'm looking forward to seeing the results, and I hope you are too! 🙂
That’s right, I’ll be reviewing The Eccentric Family (S1). I may review the second season shortly after in a separate article as well, but it may not be right away. Speaking of, it will take me a little time to get to this review since my Mom also wants to watch this and we are both in the middle of watching K-On! right now (rewatch for me, first time for her).
Until then consider checking out the previous winner, Tokyo Godfathers or my big alphabetized list of every anime I’ve reviewed. As always, the breakdown of the votes can be found below. The “Other” category saw some legitimate representation in this round, being tied with the bottom core list shows for one title. Note, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 received a third vote outside of the poll offline and I just didn’t get around to manually adding it to the digital version.
Other – Ushio & Tora, UraBoku/The Betrayal Knows My Name, Utakata, Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199/Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (x3), Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Urusei Yatsura, and Utawarerumono
With 22 unique voters it soon became apparent that this was a fight between films. The other titles, with the exception of Trigun, didn’t even get close! For a long time it was between the following:
The tale of Princess Kaguya
My Neighbor Totoro
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
It wasn’t until the last few votes rolled in that these four movies even diverged from each other. Soon it was apparent, our winner was…
Tokyo Godfathers! I’ve actually seen this one before but I love Satoshi Kon’s stuff and am looking forward to revisiting this one as a late “Christmas in July” type deal. I can tell you now, if you haven’t seen this one, it is well worth your time. To find out why, you’ll just have to wait for my review 😉
As always, the breakdown of the votes can be found below. It seems again that I forgot to include a show, Time of Eve when it came to this list, but at least 1 person gave it some love with the “other” option. Trust me guys, it is tricky putting these lists together!
Other – Tsurune, Time of Eve, To Love-Ru, and Tekkaman Blade
This time around we had 20 unique voters who deliberated on over 40 titles. In the end we had an eight-way tie, truly this was the round of impossible choices! We’ve had ties before, but never this many, and this intense. Each of the 8 listed shows received 5 votes each (in no particular order):
Attack on Titan
A Silent Voice (Film)
Spice and Wolf
I truly had expected a tight race, but this was beyond expectations. Breaking the tie myself is normally what I’d do here but I had a fairly unique opportunity. The last night of the vote, after it had ended, I was just coming home from watching some Golgo 13 with my D&D group (we are on a bit of a break right now) and I realized I hadn’t sent him the vote! For shame… As such, I thought I’d take the opportunity to have him be the decider.
Provided with the above list of options he sat and thought for a few minutes before finally consulting me with his final decision. He said it was a tough choice, both Spice and Wolf and Silver Spoon were viable options, but he said he settled ultimately on Silver Spoon because he thinks I would really enjoy it.
So there we have it folks! Silver Spoon has won the prestigious honor of being our 19th spot in this very cut-throat race. I hope you’ll look forward to the review! I’ll be working on the watch over the next few weeks as I have a few other projects currently in the works. Until then, there will be regular scheduled content or you can always check out the previous winner, Run with the Wind or my big alphabetized list of every anime I’ve reviewed.
Below you can find a breakdown of all the votes. This time I made the pie graph a little more digestible, but the bar graph is there in full. Also a reminder, one of the other votes was for a show I’ve already reviewed, please do not vote for shows I’ve reviewed previously. Consulted the above alphabetized list before voting please!
Other – Scorching Ping Pong Girls, Symphogear (I sadly forgot to include this on the list proper…), School-Live (Already have reviewed), and Shinesman
The results are in on our 18th round of Anime ABC’s! We had 20 unique voters this time, which is just slightly below average for us. Most shows received about 4-6 votes each, with the low end being 0 and the high end at 9. The big loser was Radiant, which I can’t say I’m all too surprised about. I never thought it would win, but it didn’t even get a single vote…
Enough anticipation though. Our big winner today is Run With the Wind! This is the first time that a recently aired show has ever won. I really wanted to watch this anyway, so now I have the perfect excuse. For those who don’t know, the source is by the same person who did The Great Passage, which was a show I absolutely loved. I don’t expect this to be quite that good, but it may just surprise me. A lot of you folks seemed to enjoy it, so I’m sure you’ll be anticipating my thoughts on this one.
As usual, I’ll leave the full results below for your viewing pleasure. If you need some content to hold you over until I get this article out, I’ll be posting every M/W/F at 11:00 AM PST unless otherwise noted. Additionally, be sure to check out my look at Cowboy Bebop and its film or consider exploring the big alphabetized list of every anime I’ve reviewed.
Other votes: Recovery of an MMO Junkie, Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san, and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai*
We had a lower turnout than usual, but despite this, it was a very tight race. It turns out when you pit all the fan-favorite shows against each other, folks have a hard time deciding which one should win. With a total of 21 unique voters, one show received 9 votes among them. The winner was none other than Cowboy Bebop!
The plan is to rewatch the series and get an article out. After that, I’ll be watching the film and producing a follow-up article for that as well. This is going to take me awhile because I’m losing my Amazon Prime account, so that means I need to finish a few shows they have that are still exclusive before anything else. After that, this’ll have my full attention though.
As always, you can see the full results of the votes below. It was awful close so I’m sure you’ll be curious to see what titles almost won. Even my personal pick only managed second place (but what one could that be?).
Congratulations everybody, we pulled together to achieve the greatest voting turnout so far with 31 unique voters! This is only 2 more than the previous record but I’m still really happy that we beat it all the same. So, what title won the coveted position of getting reviewed this time?
Having received 13 total votes is Psycho-Pass! This one is a popular show that I’ve considered covering a few times in the past so it is definitely long overdue. There is a lot of excellent content covering the series (especially here in the aniblogging sphere) as is so I’ll have to think hard about how I want to cover it for sure. I’m really excited to watch this one again and finally take a look at it!
In the meantime be sure to check out the previous ABC’s article where I review Ouran High School Host Club. I really struggled with that one and tried a lot of new stuff with that article with fairly mixed results. That’s alright though because, in case you haven’t noticed, the Anime ABC’s series is a place where I experiment and try something new every single time!
Lastly, below is a complete breakdown of the total results from the voting. Notice that I included a new feature this time in the forms of links to each show’s synopsis. Only 2 people used ’em but a lot of folks want me to keep them. I think we’ll try this at least one more time but if folks don’t need them I’ll stop doing it because it is a tedious process for me.
We had a very good voting turnout this round with 24 unique voters. That is an excellent turnout! Still, we somehow managed to once again arrive at a tie. So I turned to the internet to help me make this very important decision between the top two contenders: Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (Wolf Children – Film) and Ouran High School Host Club.
Now it’s time to….
SPIN! THAT! WHEEL!
Round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows….
The anticipation is killing me!
Ok, the results are in, and as you can see, the winner is…
I’m very excited to be reviewing Ouran and I hope you’ll look forward to it! I’m going to be starting a new job next week so expect to hear more about that later. For now, enjoy the results of the vote below as per the usual. The results included are only those that influenced the outcome, as you may recall I asked additional questions this time, you’ll see those results in a separate post later. A big THANK YOU to all who participated this time!
This round of Anime ABC’s had a lot of weirdness surrounding it. For starters, some long-time voters didn’t participate (I didn’t send it to them, what with everything going on and all) and the front runner changed almost every time somebody voted. In total we had 22 unique voters. At the end of the day though, only one title can reign supreme. Today, a champion emerges and that champion is…
Welcome to the NHK.
Having received a total of 8 votes this is our winner for the N round! Nichijou and No Game No Life were in second and third place respectively. Everything else was reasonably close behind.
I’ll be taking time to re-watch the series and have everything still going on (see this update if you don’t know already) so don’t expect this one to come very quickly. In the meantime I am going to try and schedule a few goodies for you all here-and-there between so I’m not totally dead during my absence. If you want to see me a bit more active, you can find me on Twitter @JS_Reviews.
Not enough for you? Will then be sure to check out the previous ABC article where I discuss Mob Psycho 100 and talk a bit about One Punch Man too. Of course, you can always see every review/discussion piece I ever did by clicking the header for the category on the main page or just clicking here for an alphabetized list.
As always, the full results of the vote are attached below. Did your pick win out or did end up falling short? Let me know your thoughts on this round of Anime ABC’s and the result. Until then, take it easy and I hope I can come back in full swing soon!
Other results: Noragami, Neo Ranga, Nerawareta Gakuen/Psychic School Wars, Nana, and Naruto
From the beginning I thought for sure that the winner was either going to be Made in Abyss or March Comes in Like a Lion. To my surprise, and probably yours as well, neither took home first prize. We had a little less than usual for the turnout and those few missing votes probably made all the difference. Up until the very last minute we had a four-way tie between Made in Abyss, Mob Psycho 100, Mushishi, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
While I had expected two clear front-runners, you’ll see that only Made in Abyss even came close. Fan favorite Lion only had a total of 5 votes! Since I already let the cat out of the bag, we know that the winner can only be one of the other three. Let’s take a closer look at the candidates.
Mob Psycho 100 is a show I’ve seen before that was the follow up anime to the extremely popular One Punch Man. It has its own unique visual flavor with everything people had come to expect form a One adaptations. Certainly a solid choice out of our three contenders.
Mushishi is a show I have yet to watch. Heralded as a nice show to relax with among the ranks of Aria, this is one show that I just know I’ll enjoy. While I would take awhile to fully enjoy this series, thus making the final article take a bit longer, I know that the wait would be well deserved. Another great choice for our finalists.
Finally, a classic. Haruhi is just one of those shows that every anime fan makes their way around to eventually. Once a cutting-edge show that opened the floodgates for light novel adaptations in addition to the whacky follow-up series Lucky Star, this is one show that you can’t go wrong with. Of the three in this arbitrary suspense building summary, this is the one I am most knowledgeable about and would make for the most interesting article.
Enough With the Suspense!
The winner for the M round of Anime ABC’s goes too… wait, this is far too boring of a way to tell you who the winner is. Hmm, I’ve already done a battle to the death so that’s no good. How about? No can’t do that… Ah! I know what we’ll do! A reveal with the OP. Ok folks here it comes in…
Shoot wrong show >.<
Ok, in all seriousness I’ll actually show you the video now.
That’s right, the winner is Mob Psycho 100!
As always, a breakdown of the votes is provided below. I’ll be working to get this review out within a few weeks so thanks to all who voted. This series is a lot of fun and I hope you are all enjoying it too!
