Freaky Friday 1 of 4 – 10 Anime to get You into the Halloween Spirit

Boo!

I hope everybody is doing well this fine October. The past couple of years I’ve done Halloween events, most notably last year with my October Review Fest where I did a whole month of themed content. Unfortunately this year I totally spaced the fact that October comes after September (I’ve been dealing with a lot of stuff, bare with me guys) so I was not at all prepared to do an awesome event at that scale again this year. Don’t distress though, that’s where Freaky Fridays come in! Every Friday this month I’ll have a themed article for the Halloween season. Today, 10 anime to get you into the Halloween spirit! October Review Fest – Event Wrap-up

That’s All Folks!

Thank you to everybody who participated in this year’s Halloween event. I did more than I have ever done for an event like this; it ran the whole month! In case you missed any or all of the event, here is a list of each week and the respective reviews:

Week 1 – Lika Week

Week 2 – Fun & Gams Week

Week 3 – Higurashi Week

Week 4 – Obscure Week

We had a lot more articles published beyond this from both myself and contributors as well. Here are a few other articles that you may want to check out for the Halloween season from my contributors:

October Review Fest ended up being a little more taxing than I had initially expected, but that was largely due to real life interference. I would love to do more events like this in the future. I hope you’ll be around for them! That does it for this Halloween. Until next year!

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette – Beauty Effects us in Mysterious Ways

Definitely a Shinbou Work

Here we are at the conclusion of Obsucre Week and our October Review Fest. Today I’ll be looking at an interesting title:  Le Portait de Petite Cossette. This anime is a three episode OVA series that came out of studio Daume back in 2004. Haven’t heard of them? Think again, this is the studio behind some fan favorites like Yuru Yuri, and another great Halloween title, Shiki. Is this title a hidden gem, or something that was best left buried in the past? Let’s find out. Continue reading “Le Portrait de Petite Cossette – Beauty Effects us in Mysterious Ways”

Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne – The Times are Always Changing

Except for These Immortal Women

Likely the least obscure of the titles I’m taking a look at for Obscure Week during our October Review Fest, Rin:  Daughters of Mnemosyne is a 6 episode series that offers horror, mystery, sex, and violence. Each episode clocks in at about 45 minutes and explores the life of Rin and Mimi, two immortal women who’s lives go unchanged as the world changes around them. Well, that is until one fated encounter. Continue reading “Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne – The Times are Always Changing”

Pet Shop of Horrors – Selling Hopes & Dreams?

Not Your Ordinary Pet Shop

Pet Shop of Horrors is a four episode anime adaptation of the manga of the same title. Albeit a loose adaptation, but that was probably for the better. It aired back in 1999 and was animated by Madhouse. You know what they say, you can find anything in the back alleys of Chinatown, and Count D’s pet shop is no exception. You can find a rabbit that looks just like your recently deceased daughter, a beautiful mermaid, and so much more. Be warned, the contract must be followed exactly. After all, everything has a price. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (Season 2) – Some Much Deserved Answers

Fight for a Perfect World

If you haven’t read my review of season one, you should take a moment to do that. I’m going to assume you have some knowledge of season one in this review, so there will be some spoilers in this post. Kai is the follow up to Higurashi’s first season that delivers some much needed answers. Continue reading “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (Season 2) – Some Much Deserved Answers”

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Season 1) – Wait, What’s Going on?

Murder is Better with Friends

I’ve been really excited for this week of the October Review Fest because I get to talk about one of my favorite anime series, Higurashi. This was a series I watched not too far into my anime journey and I loved every minute of it. I’ve since seen the show a couple times over and it is still cemented as one of my favorites. Here’s my look at the first season and why you should watch Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Continue reading “Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Season 1) – Wait, What’s Going on?”

Mysterium – Is This Your Card?

Welcome to a Gathering of the World’s Best Spiritualists

Your purpose is to channel the spirit of a murdered man and determine who the culprit is. Mysterium is a lot like Clue, except way better. If you’ve ever played Dixit before, then you should also feel at home with how the game works. You’ll be transfixed by the hauntingly beautiful artwork and murder mystery that is set before you. Can you solve the murder before it’s too late? Continue reading “Mysterium – Is This Your Card?”

The Sexy Brutale – Not What it Sounds Like

A Truly Unique Experience

I know for video games this is a statement you hear far too often, but in the case of The Sexy Brutale this is 100% true. Thrown head-first into an intriguing mystery that takes place in a mansion that has been converted into a casino for a party. Not just any party, the party. Normally things go off with out a hitch, but this year the staff has murderous intent. You’ll have to save the guests by manipulating time in order to solve the mystery behind these murders, and it isn’t what you may be expecting. Continue reading “The Sexy Brutale – Not What it Sounds Like”

Paranorman – Norman isn’t Normal but That’s OK

What Would You do if You Could See Ghosts?

Paranorman is the second film to come out of Liaka Studios. Unlike their first film, Coraline , this film is an original story. Originally premiering in 2012, how does Paranorman hold up today and is it a worthwhile watch? Spoiler; the answer is yes. Continue reading “Paranorman – Norman isn’t Normal but That’s OK”
