Solty Rei – Gonzo Does Father-Daughter? Sign Me Up!

Cool Creative Combo

It hasn’t even been a month and I’m already back with another father-daughter review in Solty Rei. During one of our weekly Anime Music Quiz games, the opening for this show played and several players brought the absence of this title on my list to my attention. A Gonzo show? A father-daughter show? Well, sounds like a gross oversight on my part. So now that the meme is out of the way, just how exactly does Solty Rei stack up? WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us? – Bringing More to the Table

Went in For the Meme…

You know I watch a lot of father-daughter shows so I decided to take things to the next level with WorldEnd. It’s a father-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter-daughter show, so you know I had to cover it! All jokes aside, there was more to this one than I expected resulting in a pleasant surprise. Continue reading “WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? The Gymnastics Samurai – A Surprise Seasonal Hit!

Unexpectedly Good

If you don’t know by now I watch pretty much every father-daughter anime on the market so color me surprised when I discovered The Gymnastics Samurai was one such show, but not only that, it was SO MUCH more. After checking this out on a whim for the Fall 2020 season, I knew I had to stick with this one and I’m very glad that I did. Continue reading “The Gymnastics Samurai – A Surprise Seasonal Hit!”

Kakushigoto – How to Write a B Plot

When You’re More Invested in the B-Plot

No doubt none of you are surprised by the fact that I watched, enjoyed, and am now reviewing the Spring 2020 anime, Kakushigoto. It’s got a lot going for it, the father-daughter dynamic I love so much while based on a manga written by Kouji Kumeta (you probably know him for shows like The Eccentric Family or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei). What’s not to like? What pitches itself as a comedy, however, quickly reveals something deeper going on that promises to tug at your heart strings, and that’s what I’d actually like to focus on today. Somali and the Forest Spirit – A Particularly Relevant Message

I’m Going to be Political Today

If you’ve been around for awhile here than it should come to no surprise to you that I’d eventually review the Winter 2020 anime, Somali and the Forest Spirit as it’s another father-daughter anime, the type I’m particularly fond of. We’ve been getting more of those recently, and while that’s all well and good, I’m going to be focusing on something different with today’s article. A wind of change has been blowing, not just in the US, but across the world, and Somali feels like a particularly relevant anime to discuss as its message is one I think we could all use. Barakamon, Sweetness & Lightning, and Usagi Drop – What’s the Appeal?

What’s the Appeal & Why do I Love these Anime so Much?

I was watching Sweetness & Lightning with my mother awhile back and we had an excellent time watching it. It reminded me of Barakamon and Usagi Drop, two shows that have some commonalities with Sweetness & Lightning. This got me thinking, “Why exactly do shows like these appeal so much to me?” Join me as I discuss why anime like these are so impactful to me and why they have such innate appeal.
