Obvious Recommendation Here
As promised, along with reviewing the original anime for my Anime ABC’s series, I am also taking a look at Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. Actually, this isn’t even the first time I’ve talked about the film. I first recommended it back in 2016 in an article titled, “5 Anime Films That Non-Anime Fans Can Enjoy” which aimed to recommend some good entry points into the medium. It should come then, to no surprise, that this film is worth checking out, even if you haven’t seen Cowboy Bebop yet.
Taking place somewhere in the middle fo the series proper, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, or as some refer to it as, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door does not require any previous knowledge to enjoy. It obviously helps, but I have heard numerous accounts of folks starting here, thinking it was the series, and still walking away more than satisfied.
It is a big plus for a film to be able to do that, conveying its characters and narrative in a self-contained setting. Lately it seems that when an anime does get a film it requires the watcher to either have seen the entire franchise previously or is a fairly worthless retelling with maybe a bonus scene or two.
The actual plot of the film is not dissimilar to a standard episode, it just has more runtime. A terrorist plot is set to occur on Halloween and the gang catches wind of it. It comes loaded, firing off like a shotgun everything you can/should expect from the franchise. You are going to see wonderful displays of animation, fantastic acting, and if you haven’t seen the series especially, be perfectly primed for more.
There really isn’t much more to say truly. For now, the best thing I could do is show you a clip to really sell you on everything I’m talking about and suggest you read my other article on Cowboy Bebop. If you like one, you’ll likely enjoy the other.
This is the opening of the film, so you aren’t getting spoiled 🙂
Now, it’s not like the film is perfect. Neither is the series. However, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is one that deserves to be on any collector’s shelf, be you a film buff or animation buff, there is a lot on display here that merits at least one watch.
I think that’s where we’ll leave this one. Could I say more? Probably, but it wouldn’t be anything that hasn’t been said already. Seriously, go give it a watch, you may just discover a new favorite!
What are your thoughts on the Cowboy Bebop movie? It just oozes style if you ask me. Hope you enjoyed the read, and if you did, consider hoping over to my Ko-fi and donating a dollar or two. Thanks for stopping by and see ya on the next one!
