Will This Guy Ever Get a Clue?

Awhile back I watched Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, or just, Takagi-san for short, with my mom and we both really enjoyed it. The plot follows Nishikata’s exploits to successfully tease his classmate Takagi, who is always teasing him. Is Takagi just mean or does she have another motive behind her teasing of Nishikata? Today I’ll share with you three reasons why you might enjoy the show as well!
1. It’s Funny!
I’m reminded of a show titled, “Tonari no Seki-kun: The Master of Killing Time” when it comes to Takagi-san. While I haven’t seen much of the former, this anime seems to be a longer form version of it with a gender-bent take. Just how exactly is Takagi going to tease Nishikata today and how exactly will his attempts to tease her blow up in his face?
Not only that but there are some good running jokes and some supporting cast that adds a bit of extra levity and jokes to the mix. This also helps the story from becoming too much of the same thing by not focusing solely on Nishikata and Takagi.
2. The Will-They-Won’t-They
Besides the comedy, you’ll be getting your regular dose of romantic tension with Takagi-san. Why get so invested in this relationship between two middle schoolers and if it’ll happen? Beats me, but I can can tell you that it is more compelling than it reasonably ought to be.
Nishikata is an idiot. He’s so laser focused on teasing Takagi that he misses out on her fairly obvious attempts at advancement. She wants to know if he likes her but is too afraid to take a direct approach, hence all the teasing. It’s something that is bound to be easily relatable for a lot of folks watching. So the big question, does Nishikata ever catch on? You’ll just have to watch to find out!
3. Lighthearted Fun
Lastly, this anime is just a good time. You don’t have to focus too hard on it and since it is available dubbed or subbed it is perfect for when you want a fairly casual viewing experience. Takagi-san ended up having some nice messages and made me feel good while watching it; just managed to put a smile on my face.
BONUS!
Takgi has a killer design, it is actually what drew me into the show initially. Even with my open love of loli characters, forehead lolis usually just aren’t cute but she is. Not to mention they put the characters in various outfits so visually this won’t be a dull experience either.
Have you seen Takagi-san or read any of the manga adaptations? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments below. Lastly, thanks so much for reading and I hope to see you back here at Jon Spencer Reviews again soon!
Takagi and Nishikata are such sweethearts. It’s pure childhood mischief and innocence in anime form.

Despite what a lot of my friends think, I actually watch a fair bit of shows like this. Not just the hardcore edgy wtf stuff XD

I’ve only seen bits and pieces, but I also was reminded of Seki-kun.

I should really watch it since I own it and it isn’t very long. Maybe I’ll do that…

I haven’t seen this, but sometimes you just need something lighthearted and fun to get you trough the day. This sounds like just that kind of show! Great post, and some pretty good reasons to check this one out 😊

Takagi is too powerful for NIshikata. That’s just a fact.
And I wish this show was on my Monday watch list because it’s so addictive and pure in some ways. I haven’t had any seasonal show to watch on Mondays this season.
