Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto – Mini Review

I Laughed a LOT

79468Back in 2016, Sakamoto was my favorite show of the season hands down. It was extremely funny and fun to watch. I eagerly awaited each new episode every week and just couldn’t get enough of this fantastic show. What’s even more surprising? It’s a Studio Dean production.

Each episode follows cool guy Sakamoto during his everyday life as a high school student. Usually, somebody tries to make him look bad in each episode, but by the end they only manage to make him look cooler. Some episodes are just short gags and there were 2 full episodes that were more story focused in the series.

I recently had the pleasure of watching this again (for the third time!) with my younger brother and I can confidently say that Sakamoto holds up with each rewatch. Each episode was very funny and never got repetitive. My fan theory that he is an alien only gets more and more reinforced as well. There is just too much evidence! I mean, how else does he do all this stuff?

There was one episode that was pretty poor compared to the others part way through on first viewing, but it was an extremely necessary episode that setup the show’s conclusion rather well. On a rewatch, I hardly noticed this. I don’t want to say much else, because this is a show that I think is a must-see for any anime fan. Sakamoto is definitely a must-watch series!

What did you think of Sakamoto? Did it have you laughing or was it a major dud for you? Also, do you think Sakamoto is an alien? Let me know in the comments below. 1. I really enjoy the absurdity of the show, it was clearly a series that didn’t try to take itself seriously and I just love it for that, plus Sakamoto is pleasant for the eyes so it was a plus for me.

  2. Sakamoto really is laugh-out-loud funny. I love the fan theory that Sakamoto is Seki-kun in high school. (If you’ve haven’t seen Tonari no Seki-kun, you really should.)

    1. Fair enough. Dean isn’t exactly everybody’s favorite studio because of stuff like they but I like a surprisingly decent amount of their stuff. Sakamoto is definitely one they did a great job on in general.

Of course, it is super funny! 😀

  3. I enjoyed it to start with but kind of found the jokes wearing thin by mid-season. I’m a few episodes off actually completing but I did watch the last episode (that’s why I never wrote a review because I didn’t actually watch all of it). To me it kind of reminded me of One Punch Man in that it had its set up and it just kind of did it again and again. While I finished OPM, I couldn’t rewatch it because there just wasn’t anything else in the show. Sakamoto, being more comedy focused than action, just couldn’t keep me interested. That said, I certainly understand why other people really enjoyed it. It really does go all out at times and early on the comedy elements made me laugh which is fairly rare for this type of show.

  4. I think you know that I don’t really like comedies, and usually give them a pass. The only comedy that I really liked was Urusei Yatsura an 80’s anime show that was just simply hilarious. That said…why do you write reviews that are so good at convincing, that I am even getting interested in comedies now? Ugh…as if I did not have enough things to watch already lol😂😂 Seriously though…I might go and check this one out..have made a note to at least give it a try. Great post! 😀

  5. I keep seeing photos of Sakamoto everywhere but I actually haven’t seen it yet. Wow, you watched it 3 times?? Dang. I think I will watch the first episode right NOW then. You’re pretty convincing, hahaha.
